First Time Homebuyer’s Workshop
April 28, 2011
On Wednesday, April 20th, The Olney Community Collaborative teamed up with Alliance Real Estate, Rick Thorpe of Vision Mortgage Capital, Marc Jones of American Home Building Inspectors Inc and the Korean Community Development Services Center’s Housing Counseling Department to discuss issues such as credit & budget, mortgages, predatory lending issues, home inspections and much more.
The event took place at the Greater Olney Free Library Branch and was well attended by local residents interested in purchasing a home in the near future. The OCC hopes to make this First Time Homebuyer’s Workshop an annual event.

April 13, 2011
You may have walked past this shop many times, unaware of the unique treasures it holds inside. It’s ok, I did too. That’s something Marie, owner of Bethlehem Star Hats, is looking to change. Nestled inbetween the 400 and 500 block of W. Tabor Road sits Marie’s handmade hat shop, which was previously a Hair salon.
Though the sign outside her building leads you to believe 431 W. Tabor Road is still indeed a hair salon, upon entering you will be pleasantly surprised to find hundreds of handmade hats, handbags, and dresses. With a little help from the Commerce Department’s Storefront Improvement Program and the guidance of the North 5th Street Revitalization Project staff, Marie’s shop will soon be on its way to getting a makeover. The end result will not allow a single patron to walk by without taking note of the unique accessories Bethlehem Star Hats has to offer!
When you’re shopping along the North 5th Street Corridor, be sure visit Marie and add a handmade gem to your collection of accessories.
